Meeting the Manx Brothers

Run for Your Life7

We have a couple new family members on the Sundog Ranch.  Every animal on the ranch are intrigued by them….especially the Sundogs.   When we go to the barn to feed the first thing on the Sundog’s to do list is to check on those new little critters in the barn.

Run for Your Life82We have this sliding door to the hay room tied so it won’t open all the way and BIG animals can’t get in thereby giving the Manx Brothers some recluse.

Run for Your Life79

But the tie is not working so well.   Lassen is able to muscle his way in.  Poor Manx Brothers.Run for Your Life80

I yelled at Lassen (I mean gave him a command) to come out of there and he actually listened to me.  Until all hell broke loose and almost all of the Sundogs burst in to greet the Manx Brothers.  The Manx Brothers live on top of the tack room.  They are our new barn cats.   You see we have quite the wood rat population and something has to be done about it.

Here you have them.  I could hardly get mad.  Yolo of course was posed for the photo and little Milton Manx posed along with him.  Lassen is trying to get closer and find out were Mangus Manx is.  Mangus is Milton’s brother.  Maisie is trying to keep her cool because she thinks the Manx Brothers may be tasty.  Nevada looks at Maisie wondering why she is acting so weird.  Sasha is a bit weary of the Manx Brothers since that other BIG kitty we used to have gave her more that one swipe across the nose. Run for Your Life76Sasha stays outside and Momma Maisie joins her.  If was not so hot she’d be chasing dragonflies.  The temp is already in the low 90’s.Run for Your Life72Maisie returns salivating at the mouth now…but not foaming yet.  You can’t hear her whining, good thing.   Yolo is still posed in the best spot for kitty viewing and brother Lassen stays nearby for support.  Run for Your Life69Milton gets closer to the Sundog Brothers and lets them know it is NOT OK to come any closer.  Mangus is tucked away in the box refusing to come out.  Run for Your Life153Somehow between the time I went to grab something out of the truck and then turned around to return the Manx Brothers decided to make a bold run past every body and make a dash for the tack room.  I tie the door to the tack room too and the tie stays.  The brothers are able to poke in and out and tease the Sundogs. Here is Lassen doing what he does….sitting very still and drooling over the brothers.  Here is Mangus posed to sprint back to the hay room since Lassen won’t stop drooling over him.Run for Your Life156Here he goes.Run for Your Life162Milton makes a dash too staying with Mangus but oh no!  The Big Brothers are working together now.Run for Your Life161The BIG Brothers are closing in…what should we do?Run for Your Life165Somehow Milton made it back to the tack room.  The BIG Brothers don’t care.  One kitty is tasty enough.

Run for Your Life167What is a kitty to do?Run for Your Life164“Maybe I should hiss and swat now but I’m frozen”  Poor Mangus.  I’m proud at how he is handling this.  Do you hate me now for not rescuing him?  Don’t worry I trust my Sundogs.  Besides they had a big breakfast.Run for Your Life171I know this looks like Kitty abuse but it is part of getting to know kitty.  After this look CAMERA DOWN kitty in my arms.  The Sundogs still have a ways to go to quell their obsession with the Manx Brothers.  We will do this routine every morning until the Manx Brothers are no big deal anymore.  I’ll make sure we don’t have any unsupervised visits with the Sundogs and the Manx Brothers down at the barn.  AND I will make sure I feed the Sundogs well before our visit.

Adios Amigos 🙂

Black and White Sunday

I have decided to start what I call EASY blogging every other day or so.  Wish I could be more specific.  It’s just that  blogging can be time consuming.  At least for me it is.  I have so many stories to tell and SO MANY photo’s to choose from.  On top of that I am a SLOW writer or blogger or what ever you want to call me.   In this day and age you need to make a quick easy connection with who ever it out there almost everyday.  Otherwise you are forgotten.  Sad reality huh?

So far I’m doing Weekly Photo Challenge, Wordless Wednesday and now I’m joining Black and White Sunday.  I think that will be it.   Longer quirky posts about Sundog Ranch and our travels will fill the gaps…….hopefully.   Here goes my first post for B&W Sunday.

By the Pool

“Pretty by the Pool”

As usual Yolo is front and center.  Maisie and Mr Lassen in the background.   If you know anything about the Sundogs you will know Yolo likes to be front and center in almost every photograph he is in.  Seriously,  I DO NOT  plan it this way.   Immediately when we start posing he gets right in there in front.  I’m convinced he knows what he is doing.  I think he wants to be seen and to be famous some day.  We’ll keep trying Holy Moly Man.

Mountain Dogs: “The Precious”

_MG_0462

This is actually “Part Two” of Mountain Dogs: At It Again   But I had to name this post  “The Precious”.   Because anybody that has a retriever or any dog that likes to retrieve you know what I mean.

When we go to Tahoe the Sundogs become “Mountain Dogs”   Close by the condo cabin we have the Truckee River or “The Lake”  We did not take “The Precious” to the river because it may end up downstream if somebody does not do their job to recover it.  And we don’t want to litter the river beds with “The Precious”

So today we take “The Precious” to the lake._MG_0251But first we started out by having Rockin’ Roy get the dogs focused on “The Precious” on the lawn.   Notice who are the best students.  Lassen the noncompetitive one has other things to investigate._MG_0239Sasha’s focus is unbeatable._MG_0206At two years old she’s in her prime.  Sorry Yolo.

_MG_0318After the warm up it’s time to head down to the pier.  As you can see someone got a little too warmed up and is already cooling off at the shore.   Normally at the condo cabin we have to have the mountain dogs leashed up in the common areas and the pier.  But since it is off season and no one is around the COAST IS CLEAR!_MG_0324We HAVE to make sure we bring plenty of bags (for you know what) and the leashes out on the big long pier.  Because sometimes guests come walking out and want more peace and solitude than the Mountain Dogs are willing to offer. _MG_0340 Human rules don’t apply to the Mountain Dogs._MG_0360Even though Sasha’s in top form these days Yolo will not give up on owning the “The Precious”.    Lassen on the other hand has other things to investigate._MG_0373You see,  Yolo is addicted to “The Precious”.   His addiction gets a little annoying at times and we have to put “The Precious away”.  Right now Roy is trying to teach Yolo a little patience._MG_0368Yolo tries to maintain his cool._MG_0376“Will you PLEASE throw that thing for me!”_MG_0380“Finally he is lifting his arm a little”._MG_0400“I thought it would never happen.   And look….. all five Mountain Dogs are competing with me now.  Darn”_MG_0401Their off!_MG_0389Miss perfect beats Yolo again by two body lengths at least. _MG_0427Watch out for Sasha.  MONSTER MOUTH._MG_0429ESCAPE ROUTE PLEASE!!_MG_0395Amazingly Sasha makes it back to Rocking Roy with “The Precious”.    _MG_0521Did you ever wonder if “The Precious”  ever goes over the edge?  Well it does.  As you can see Yolo still has his eye on “The Precious” but I have to be truthful and admit, it took quite sometime for him to put two and two together and figure out how to get to it._MG_0080 (1)He finally figured to go over to and then down the stairs that lead into the human swimming section which is where “The Precious” fell.   He looked and looked at the water and at me.  “Where is The Precious?”_MG_0507Sasha was looking for “The Precious” too._MG_0546Finally they both were on track and getting near “The Precious”._MG_0550When suddenly Sasha gave up and turned back.  I think she just wanted to give her big brother a chance.  But in reality Yolo is “still the man” He kept his eye on the ball (I mean “The Precious”) and did not give up for anything.  I guess his “Precious” addiction is good thing…….sometimes._MG_0565Sasha not being quite as addicted the “The Precious”  said “I gotta get back to dry land”._MG_0484 While Lassen is off investigating again.  Not giving a hoot about “The Precious”

Until next post.

Mountain Dogs: At it Again

Image

I, we and they are at it again.  “I” meaning I’m finally back to this blog.   “We” meaning Rockin Roy and I took the Sundogs to one of their favorite places in the world.    And “they” meaning the Sundogs doing what they do best.  Strutting their stuff at Tahoe in the Truckee River.  This year Sasha is a whole year older and becoming quite the competition for the Yolo the “king”  of our retrievers.  As you can see above Sasha has the upper hand with the BIG stick.  Yolo clings to about one inch of it.   I don’t know who found the BIG stick but they really scored.  They found a LONG stick too since the BIG stick is a bit heavy to retrieve every time.

_MG_0009

Here is the LONG stick.   Can you see the way Sasha grabbed the end next to Yolo?  That is her strategy for knocking him off the stick so she can get back to shore solely with the stick in her possession.

_MG_0238

It is time to throw the BIG stick again.  Dropping the BIG stick at one’s feet is how it’s done.

_MG_0240

Grabbing the BIG stick without getting your hand stepped on or mauled is a good thing too._MG_0198Keeping your eye on the stick while it is being thrown is a good thing if you want to get to it first.

_MG_0052

This time Yolo gets a better grip but Maisie is out of the running completely.

_MG_0008

“Today is just not my day” says Maise.

_MG_0055

Yolo and Sasha make it back to shore AGAIN after I don’t know how may retrieves.  “We have to live up to our name mom”.

_MG_0106

Meanwhile Mr. Lassen our noncompetitive Sundog strolls on the beach.

_MG_0129

And rolls in the course mountain grass scratching his back.  Who needs to fight for the stick?

_MG_0249

Nevada wants to fight for the BIG stick just once at least.

_MG_0234

But Sasha and Yolo joined at the shoulders are not letting anyone else in on their rivalry.

_MG_0040

Guess who eventually wins out?  Hopefully Sasha retains all her teeth after proudly prancing around on the beach with the BIG stick.

_MG_0019

And since 20 retrieves is not enough they have to go for one more plunge.

_MG_0013

“Boy that one really got me wet all over.  Getting the water out of ones ears is important”.

_MG_0131

Last return after at least 21 throws.  It’s time to dry off don’t you think?

_MG_0164

Sasha says no way.  I am in perfect form and peak performance.

_MG_0183

I’ll just take this BIG stick into the river on my own.

_MG_0090

After a few tries on her own Sasha agrees to do her dry off dance on the beach.

_MG_0288

Soon we vanish into the forest and let the warm mountain sun dry wet paws and pants.

_MG_0309

The dreaded leashing up for the walk home._MG_0313

“We get to be leashless while we dry off some more in the sun”.  The truck is another favorite place of the Sundogs because it takes them to their favorite places.

_MG_0338

Time to close the tailgate for the trip home.  Yolo contemplates how far to the ground just in case the need for escape.

_MG_0864

Once home the couch rules.  Rockin Roy is exhausted from throwing the BIG stick and and Maisie contemplates how to get back her groove as the top retriever.  “Boy swimming against the river current really wears me out these days”.

_MG_0883

“Life is good though.  I can’t complain”.

Adios Amigo’s…stay tuned for the   “The Precious” .

Out of the Archives: Bedtime

_MG_0670What is better than an afternoon snooze on mom and dad’s bed?   That’s why I could not help but pull some of these “bedtime” photo’s out of the archives.  It is a joy to find this many Sundogs snoozing on our bed together.    I turned one into black and white which I love but Golden’s and the color purple ROCK.    Enjoy!_MG_0522On a gloomy afternoon in March while I was cleaning out my bedroom closet Sasha got things started and out came my camera.  Being the baby of the family she needed and still needs lots of naps along with her cherished purple monkey.  Although the purple monkey was so cherished it recently went to stuffed animal heaven._MG_0562 Miss Maisie Rose being the ham she is had to get in on the action and somehow the purple monkey lies on the floor.  _MG_0574“Oh well, there is always something else to hold in your mouth to pose for the camera.  Why here’s a sock!”_MG_0575“Oops!  I was so  enamored by the camera I dropped the sock.   Now Rockin Roy’s sock lies on top of the purple monkey.  I can surely fit BOTH of them in my mouth”_MG_0582“I’m a little embarrassed now.  I’m going to slink away to the floor for my treasures”_MG_0596Meanwhile Miss Maisie Rose, my English Cream beauty, basks in the glory of being alone.  She gazes out the window in wonder.  “Will this gloomy day ever turn to sunshine?”  _MG_0626After putting the camera down and going back to cleaning out my closet I come back to the bed with a different scene.   Yolo takes center stage (OF COURSE) while Lassen and Maisie watch Sasha ruin Rockin Roy’s sock._MG_0616By now Rockin Roy’s sock is clearly destroyed.   Yolo, Maisie and Lassen watch with approval.  “We taught her well.”_MG_0662Sasha is done with destroying so she slinks back up on the bed to snooze with the gang.  Like good dogs they all turn around to face me and my camera.   Photographers dogs usually get good at posing.  _MG_0668“We need our beauty rest.”_MG_0675OK you guys.   “Good night, sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite”.

Mountain Dogs: Swimming with Sasha Part 2

MDog P226

This is what happens when we take THEM to the pier.   After the long journey down the very long and historic Tahoe Taverns pier the Sundogs can’t wait to get into the water.  This is what happens.MDog P210Maisie is my leaper.  She does not drift into the water she LEAPS into it.  Off the metal stairs that lead to the swimming section off the pier.  The roped off swimming  area is reserved for humans but unless it is the heart of the summer in prime daylight hours the Sundogs TAKE OVER at the swimming section.   Leaping affords Maisie a lot of time to get in front of her brothers hence to get to the object she is after FIRST.MDog P211Once Maisie gets what she is looking for of course she is FIRST to the stairs.MDog P213Sasha at four months old and her first time at the “stairs” does not want any part of what seems like fun to the big Sundogs.  Leaping by herself into the blue-green sea of liquid ice with two  or three other giant Sundogs after her does not seem fun.MDog P223

I’m in the water!  Isn’t that enough?

MDog P212But no matter how hard she tries by putting two feet first in the water Sasha cannot bring herself to plunge in to the sea of liquid ice like her Mom does.MDog P217So she plunks down at the top of the stairs where she can watch that is going on.MDog P29Mr Lassen is also staying dry for now.  He got his feet wet but since he is not too into competition he used the opportunity while everyone else was swimming to check out the good sniffs….. on the end of the pier by the swimming section.  MDog P219He could watch the swimming scene with Rockin Roy and that was fine with him.

MDog P218 And RARE undivided attention was to be had.MDog P220While Maisie and Yolo had to get the ball FIRST from the stairs.  MDog P215Sasha stayed far away from the bottom step when Yolo was there.MDog P214

And got away quickly when Mom was plunging.MDog P222Lassen finally gets in on the action and so now we have three big wet Sundogs crowding the stairs.MDog P221When they shake Rockin Roy tries to get away from the shake but not Sasha.MDog P216Sasha has to play the “I BITE YOUR LEG” game while they aren’t even finished shaking off yet.MDog P22It is time to dry off on the pier now.  No more fun “on the stairs”.MDog P26Sasha seems a little more at ease now with Mom and Yolo at her side NOT on dry land but at least on the pier.  They can all survey the lake and bird situation from here and stop the silly plunging into liquid ice even if there is that retrieving thing going on.MDog P27Rockin Roy calls and in no time the Sundogs sprint to the call.  It must be time to go home, finish drying off and hit the couches.MDog P23Leashing up for the walk down the pier away from the swimming section is OK since we got a bit tired out.  MDog P24Even if we don’t want to admit it.

Adios Amigo’s…until next time.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Color

Image

GOLD, a complimentary color.  Well not really.  According to the color wheel blue and orange are complimentary colors, along with purple/yellow,  green/red.

But GOLD is a color that looks good next to just about any other color.  In my mind GOLD looks best next to blue (kinda like blue and orange)   And in my GOLDEN world blue seems to always share the scene with the color white.  I know, white is not really a color but for the purposes of this “assignment” I will treat it like a color.

Image

This is my all time favorite and award winning photo titled “Water Dog”   Miss Maisie Rose is one of my five GOLDEN’S who looks good in blue and white.  No she is not a yellow lab.  She is a GOLDEN retriever.

Image

Here is a photo I took a zillion years ago of my original five.  This pier and the water that surrounds it is our GOLDEN’S favorite place in the world.

Image

Sasha’s White Magic on the same pier a zillion years later.  She was not part of the original five but we love her all the same.  She  looks pretty good in blue and white don’t you think?

Image

I’m on a roll here with pier photo’s.  Cool grey with the GOLD and powdery blue and white make this shot one of my favorites.

Image

Lassen and Yolo, my two GOLDEN boys, looking angelic in white with a smidgen of baby blue.

Image

A brand new GOLDEN looking good against blue.

Image

Another baby GOLDEN looking cute next to blue.   He is plotting his next move.

Image

Green is part blue.  Green is probably my next favorite color next to GOLD.  Here is Yolo after one of his many trips to the vet.  See the fashionable aqua green vet wrap on his right leg.  That was where he had IV fluid infused. This dog has survived just about everything (knock on wood).  Three rattlesnake bites over the years and this time we think salmon or trout poisoning.  Yolo helps keep the local vets around here in business.

Image

This was our Christmas photo one year minus the photo shopped red bows over their pretty little heads.  GOLDEN’S always look good in green vehicles.

Image

Aqua Green!  The freezing cold water my GOLDEN has no problem jumping into.

Image

The power of the purple monkey.  Purple is part blue too.  Purple looks super special next to GOLD.

Image

Purple, yellow and GOLD.  Life does not get much better than this.

Image

Purple and GOLD treasure basket.  Life is good.

Image

Purple looks good with red but only if buffered with GOLD.

.Image

Red and GOLD….or you could call this red and white.  Our team colors.

Image

Red and white Santa only comes out one month out of the year.  Even though he is red and white, in the mouth of a GOLDEN he is GOLD.

_MG_1703

GOLDEN’S look good next to neutral colors too since they are shades of GOLD and cream.   This rusty brown rock blends perfectly next to our creamy girl with the coal black eyes.

010

Kelsey and Madison my first two GOLDEN’S form a heart.   GOLD hearts contrasted against the brown concrete floor.  RIP  girls.  You are still pieces of my heart.

DSC_0281

GOLDEN’S even look good next to GOLD.  These babies are pieces of my heart too.

_MG_1662

Eyes wide shut in the GOLDEN season._MG_0380

GOLDEN tails in the GOLDEN season._MG_0443And last of all……...GOLDEN’S look good against multicolored patterns too.  Especially on the couch.

Adios Amigo’s!

ONE MORE THING!  A note to my loyal followers.  I am now following “The Daily Post”  The Daily Post is a blog that helps you be a better blogger and presents a “Weekly Photo Challenge”.   A kind of photography assignment if you will.  This is my first “Weekly Photo Challenge”  Hope you enjoyed.
